The new pedestrian bridge is part of a larger trolley station project for the Metropolitan Transit Development Board of San Diego located at San Diego State University. Randall Lamb provided lighting design services, preparing 3-dimensional renderings demonstrating various lighting concepts.
The lighting design strengthens the nighttime identity of the bridge by washing the 220-foot arching truss with red light. Additionally, the stainless steel supporting cables glow with white light along the entire length of the bridge while custom pathway lights integrated into the handrail provide a warm and safe crossing. The piers supporting the ends of the bridge are bathed in a yellow light grounding the bridge into the surrounding environment.
