Designing A Sustainable Future

The City of Del Mar is revitalizing its civic center with a new project that includes a 9,000 sq ft City Hall for administrative functions, 4,000 sq ft/250-seat Town Hall for community events, a public parking garage and surface lot, and a large public plaza. This project will serve as an example to the community of sustainable design and construction, meeting voluntary Tier-1 level of performance as outlined in California’s Green Building Standards.

Randall Lamb provided MEP design services incorporating a number of features to meet the project’s sustainability goals. An efficient variable refrigerant flow (VRF) system provides heating and cooling in conjunction with a natural ventilation system. Dedicated drainage piping allows for collection and treatment of greywater for irrigation. Electrical lighting design and controls make maximum use of daylight and avoid night-time light pollution to meet stringent dark-sky requirements.
