Aaron Parkington, PE, LEED AP
What’s your current position at Randall Lamb?
Principal Mechanical Engineer, San Diego
Who would you consider your role model?
My role model is my late grandfather, Harry Parkington. His life was symbolic of the “American Dream,” having emigrated from England during the Depression. He became a citizen so he could serve in WWII, survived Normandy, and then lived on to create opportunities for himself and his family through hard work and dedication. He was selfless and inspiring to everyone that knew him, exuding optimism and cheer, seemingly at all times. It was incredible to hear the stories at his memorial earlier this year, told by five different generations. I doubt I’ll know another person as great in my lifetime.
What do you like best about your chosen field?
What I like best is simple: Seeing something you draw on paper become real. That, and the variety the industry offers. Every day brings new challenges, and every project is different. You have to constantly learn and adapt to new ideas and technologies…or you’ll be left behind.
What is your favorite film?
So many to choose from, but I’ll go with Shawshank Redemption. It’s so good – if you haven’t seen it, you need to. Other favorites – of the silly variety – include Dumb and Dumber and Kingpin. If you ever need a laugh, just check out any of the Farrelly Brothers movies.
