The
electrical, fire alarm, and telephone distribution systems
within the building used vertical distribution to panel/backboards
with horizontal distribution to the dorm rooms. The lighting
design included direct/indirect luminaires in each dorm room,
parabolic troffers in meeting rooms and offices, and indirect
HID lighting in lobbies. The exterior lighting was designed
to match existing University guidelines. |

The
dormitory was constructed on the top edge of a canyon, in
seismic zone 4, and used an innovative construction technique.
Tunnel-form construction utilized hydraulic forms for cast-in-place
concrete to allow rapid construction of the building with
its many identical rooms. |
