12-story residence hall; 5,000 sq ft multi-purpose building; 1,000 sq ft convenience store.
The electrical, fire alarm, and telephone distribution systems within the building used vertical distribution to panel/backboards with horizontal distribution to the dorm rooms. The lighting design included direct/indirect luminaires in each dorm room, parabolic troffers in meeting rooms and offices, and indirect HID lighting in lobbies. The exterior lighting was designed to match existing University guidelines.
The dormitory was constructed on the top edge of a canyon, in seismic zone 4, and used an innovative construction technique. Tunnel-form construction utilized hydraulic forms for cast-in-place concrete to allow rapid construction of the building with its many identical rooms.
