The plant includes two, 800 kW natural gas recuperated turbine-generators (1720 kW at 480 Volts) with exhaust gas heat recovery system. Recovered heat is converted to high pressure steam (6000 lbs/hr at 120 psi) and tied into the existing steam header. The recovered heat is used to supply existing heat loads and absorption chiller loads. Annual savings: $991,000.
This project included a complete load analysis which resulted in the design of a completely new multi-engine stand-by plant integrated into the new cogeneration plant operation (600 kW units at 480 Volts). The facility also needed to correct all essential electrical system deficiencies throughout the facility to bring the medical center up to current electrical code requirements and Veterans Administration standards.
We have successfully completed dozens of renovation projects for the VA Medical Center. The cogeneration plant is just one example under this indefinite quantity contract.
